The 'Ring of the Week' project this week was created in response to our client who wanted a dress ring commissioned as a Christmas present. This design was realised throughout a joint consultation as a couple before the husband took over the finer details. This project was a slightly unusual design brief as we were asked to create and built the ring around the stone. This bold, dramatic statement piece features a large cabochon pink tourmaline oval centre stone encased in a heavy 18 ct yellow gold mount. The shank gets slightly heavier toward to the top so the piece is more balanced and in proportion. There is a step up to the tourmaline which allows the beading to sit on a shelf encompassing the stone. This was initially going to be a rope design but after a few sample renders in the consultation process, the milgrain bead design complimented the cabochon with more effect. The actual tourmaline used had some beautiful markings which added additional depth and character to the piece.
